Historically, practice with bokken were the only way samurai could safely practice swordmanship. Today kata greatly complement training using shinai as a way to highlight important lessons and improve your Kendo as a whole. In addition, kata are a prerequisite for rank testing.
Two sets of clips are provided: one shows modern kata demonstrations, and the other their historical equivalent. Note the differences, and study the videos to perfect your technique.
