These are some helpful links to various kendo sites on the net. Some are informational, some are other university clubs, and some are commercial pages. We urge that you get in touch with an officer or an older member before you make a lot of online orders. We generally know what's good and what's not.
Another note about ordering... The general understanding in the kendo community is that when it comes to quality and where the equipment is produced, the best is made in Japan, followed by China, Korea, and Taiwan. However, what isn't said often times is that the "Japanese" equipment is sometimes made by a supplier in one of those other countries and then sold by the Japanese company at a higher price. This won't be true all the time, just something to keep in mind. Please be sure and read all that the company site tells you before you order.
Commercial Sites
E-guchi - This company has been around for a while (in Japan since 1914) and also has stores in the US. They have very high quality stuff, as well as a wide selection.
Karate Depot - A good selection of martial arts supplies. They also accept PayPal.
E-bogu - These guys have been around for a while and know what they are doing. They are the "#1 eCommerce kendo site on the Internet" according to their site. Their stuff is very high quality, but it also more expensive. These guys are of such high caliber that they sponsor the World Kendo Championship and things like that.
Kendoshop -This is a Korean company that has INCREDIBLE bargains. I ordered my bogu from this place and it was a very very good price. To give you an idea, I ordered bogu, keikogi, hakama, bogu bag, shinai, double shinai bag, and express shipping for $400 total, whereas just a bogu from e-bogu costs $500. The downside is that the company is located all the way in Korea, so shipping can be a lot. If you decide to order large things like bogu, see if any other members want to combine orders and split the shipping.
Bogu-ya Kendo (Japanese swordsmanship) Equipment - This is a Japanese company that seems to have some pretty good prices. I don't know of anyone in the club ordering from them. But this site is worth checking out based on the quality of their products (like their bogu). Also, a warm thank you to Yamada-san for letting us link their site to ours.
Tozando - This is also a Japanese company, and their products are undoubtedly high quality. But just from looking at the webpage, the prices seem to be very high. I don't believe anyone from the VT club has dealt with this company before.
